If it were my money, that's what I'd be concentrating on. You can still find used 90s models and used Traditionals for a good price. They are phenomenal guitars for not a lot of cash all things considered. I upgraded the hardware on both to Faber, and re-wired the 93 to have 500k pots. It came with Antiquities and I sold them and put a set of Custom Shop Pearly Gates in it. It came with the 498t/490r set and I put a JB/59 in there recently. But I'd wager I'm below that number in any event if we put a fair trade value on both guitars. I say probably because one of them was a trade and we didn't set any prices - we just threw keys as it were. I probably have less than $3500 between the two of mine. I find used guitars to have much better value. Then again, you might want to swap the pickups in a used Gibson too. Then again, by the time you pay $200 for new pickups.you get the idea. ![]() But I paid about $900 more for it used than an Epiphone 50s LP goes for new. My 93 looks a lot rougher than his, but it is a different beast entirely. It was obvious the body wasn't as high quality as mine. It didn't play nearly as well as my 2 Gibsons, and it was much rougher around the edges. I installed a Seymour Duncan Slash set in it for him (technically Guitar Center badly installed them and I re-wired them to make it work right). I have a friend who had a 90s Epiphone LP. I think the questions are "what is almost as good" and "what is good enough for you?" Most reviews on the newer Epiphones suggest that the QC is much better.thats why led me in that direction. My other guitar is an EBMM Majesty with the DiMarzio Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker set.I absolutely love that guitar. It plays awesome and clarity from the pickups is just so great.never had tuning and intonation issues.pick up and play.thats what drove me to thinking that maybe a proper Gibson Les Paul standard or signature would be more in line with the EBMM.less trouble I'm hoping with intonation and tuning.also I guess I'm looking for that playability as well.I'm sure the necks on the EBMM and the Gibson are very different but I'm not too concerned about that. I'm not sure I will miss the brand.the only thing that is stopping me from getting an Epiphone is that my experience with an older Epiphone SG was not great.I have an epiphone SG with Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz and the guitar gets very little playing time now.one major issue that I have is it never stays in tune and intonation is a pain.I have taken it to a luthier several times now and finally yesterday my luthier suggested I should just get another guitar and sell the Epiphone. ![]()
